South River and North County are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2015, but likely not for long. South River will take on North County at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. South River will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
South River had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Meade on Monday. South River put the hurt on Meade with a sharp 12-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Seahawks, who have now won three games by six runs or more so far this season.
South River got a great performance from Jason Tebbe as he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and only one walk). That's the fewest earned runs Tebbe has allowed since back in April of 2024.
On the hitting side, Evan Schreier was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Dylan Cowens, who scored two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
South River always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .525. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, North County narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Annapolis 3-2. The Knights haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Cash Stephenson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed six innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Joey Chatterton, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
South River's win was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-1. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for North County, their record is now 5-3.
Everything went South River's way against North County when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as South River made off with a 14-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for South River since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
