Poway is 7-1 against La Costa Canyon since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Titans will challenge the Mavericks at 5:45 p.m. The last three games Poway has played have been within one set, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Last Thursday, Poway didn't have quite enough to beat Torrey Pines and fell 3-2. The defeat continues a trend for the Titans in their meetings with the Falcons: they've now lost four in a row.
While Poway ultimately came up short, they really made Torrey Pines work, particularly in the second set. The final score came out to 16-25, 27-25, 25-19, 24-26, 15-12.
Poway's loss came about despite a quality game from Grant Rodriguez, who had five digs and two aces.
Meanwhile, La Costa Canyon can bid farewell to their six-game losing streak thanks to their game on Thursday. They blew past San Dieguito Academy 3-0. The Mavericks not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since March 13th (when they won 3-0).
La Costa Canyon never let San Dieguito Academy on the board, but things got pretty close in the third set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-21, 25-19, 25-22.
Poway's defeat dropped their record down to 18-13. As for La Costa Canyon, their victory bumped their record up to 9-15.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Tuesday's game: Poway has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 4.5 aces per game. It's a different story for La Costa Canyon, though, as they've been averaging only 2.9 aces. Given Poway's sizable advantage in that area, the Mavericks will need to find a way to close that gap.
Poway skirted past La Costa Canyon 3-2 in their previous meeting back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Titans since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
