Richland is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Southridge is on a six-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Bombers will host the Suns at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Richland is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.6 runs per game this season.
Richland is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Washington's top teams: Hanford, who was ranked eighth at the time (Richland was ranked second). The Bombers were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over the Falcons on Tuesday. The Bombers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by seven runs or more this season.
Ali Evans spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jordan Brannon, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Brooklynn Boyce was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Brannon wasn't the only one making solid contact: Richland kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Southridge narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Kennewick 4-3. The Suns haven't had any issues with the Lions recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Southridge also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Avery Garvey gave up only one earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits.
On the hitting side, Constance Gates was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run was her first of the season.
Southridge's win bumped their record up to 9-4. As for Richland, their victory bumped their record up to 11-0.
Thursday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Richland has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .499. However, it's not like Southridge struggles in that department as they've averaged .459. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Richland's way against Southridge when the teams last played back in March of 2024, as Richland made off with a 17-4 win. Do the Bombers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Suns turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
