Softball Recap: St. Michael's Has No Trouble Against Mccurdy

While St. Michael didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They blew past the McCurdy Bobcats 13-1 on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Horsemen, who have now won ten games by six runs or more so far this season.

Nadia Cedillo was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.

In other batting news, Jaslene Ramirez and Mariella Ruiz did most of the damage at the plate: Ramirez scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2, while Ruiz went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. Kailei Archuleta also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

St. Michael's always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .560. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as McCurdy only posted an OBP of .235.

St. Michael's win bumped their record up to 10-1. As for McCurdy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-11.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Michael's will venture away from home to take on Santa Fe Indian at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for McCurdy, they will head out to face off against Mora at 3:00 p.m. on Monday.
