Northwest Guilford has gone a perfect 9-0 against Southeast Guilford recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. It'll be Northside v. Southside when the Northwest Guilford Vikings and the Southeast Guilford Falcons meet at 6:00 p.m.
Northwest Guilford fell victim to Oak Grove and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They came up short against the Grizzlies, falling 10-0. Having soared to a lofty 20 runs in the game before, the Vikings' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Meanwhile, Southeast Guilford had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Wednesday. Everything went their way against the Warriors as they made off with a 12-3 win. The result was nothing new for the Falcons, who have now won five matches by seven runs or more so far this season.
Katie Jenkins-Cowart was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up three earned runs off nine hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. That stolen base marked the first that she snagged this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cailynn Sockwell, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one triple. Those doubles marked the first that she hit this season. Another player making a difference was Reaghan Coble, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Southeast Guilford kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.
Northwest Guilford's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 4-6. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 22.7 runs. As for Southeast Guilford, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-1.
Northwest Guilford beat Southeast Guilford 6-1 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Will Northwest Guilford repeat their success, or does Southeast Guilford have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
