On Tuesday, the Germantown Mavericks faced the Madison Central Jaguars in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Germantown snuck past Madison Central with a 56-50 victory. Winning may never get old, but Germantown sure is getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
Alana Rouser was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 23 points and 15 rebounds. Rouser is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Raegan Jordan, who scored ten points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Despite the defeat, Madison Central saw an underclassman step up: Karley Robinson scored 15 points along with six assists and two steals. Another player making a difference was Sharkyra Dixon, who scored 12 points along with two steals.
Even though they lost, Madison Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Germantown is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matches, which provided a massive bump to their 13-6 record this season. As for Madison Central, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 14-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Germantown will face off against Tupelo at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Mississippi (Tupelo is ranked 21st, while Germantown is ranked 24th). Madison Central will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Starkville at 6:00 p.m. on January 12th. Starkville will be looking to keep their six-game home win streak alive.
