St. Thomas Catholic put the finishing touches on their fifth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 42-21 margin over St. Pius X. Given St. Thomas Catholic's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 87th, while St. Pius X is ranked 718th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Johann Cardenas was his usual excellent self, rushing for 244 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 10.6 yards per carry, and also picking up 33 receiving yards. Cardenas is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last seven games he's played.
Meanwhile, Antonian Prep owes their defense a big pat on the back after their performance on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 14-0 win over Concordia Lutheran. The win was familiar territory for Antonian Prep who now have six in a row.
The critical scores for Antonian Prep came from Michael Moreno and Preston Jones.
St. Thomas Catholic's victory was their sixth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 9-0. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.5 points per game. As for Antonian Prep, their victory bumped their record up to 8-1.
We should be in store for an exciting game Friday as St. Thomas Catholic and Antonian Prep have no problem gaining yardage. St. Thomas Catholic has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 516.8 total yards per game. However, it's not like Antonian Prep struggles in that department as they've been averaging 371 per game. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them.
St. Thomas Catholic couldn't quite finish off Antonian Prep in their previous matchup back in November of 2022 and fell 38-35. Can St. Thomas Catholic avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
