In what's become a running theme this season, the Mayfield Trojans gave their fans yet another huge win on Friday. They put the hurt on Las Cruces with a sharp 52-26 victory. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Mayfield had established a 22 point advantage.
Mayfield's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ceanna Mckines led the charge by dropping a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds. Victoria Kirker was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with six assists and five steals.
Several Bulldawgs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Bethzy Quinones, who scored six points along with five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Rodriguez, who scored seven points along with three steals.
Mayfield's win was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-4. As for Las Cruces, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-10.
Mayfield will be playing at home against Centennial at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Mayfield focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Friday. As for Las Cruces, they will head out on the road to challenge Gadsden at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Las Cruces is not getting complacent considering they own a much higher rank in New Mexico (they are ranked 27th, while Gadsden is ranked 92nd).
