Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Markis Morrison and Jaheim Mceachin Lead Dillon to Victory

Dillon posted their closest victory since January 17th on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Scotland Fighting Scots 62-60. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 129th in South Carolina, while the Fighting Scots are ranked 379th in North Carolina) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Dillon was led to victory by Jaheim Mceachin and Markis Morrison. Mceachin posted 19 points, while Morrison put up 18 points. Morrison is becoming a predictor of the Wildcats' success: when he posts at least 15 points the team is undefeated (and 2-3 when he doesn't). Zihere McCall was another key player, putting up eight points.

Scotland's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Zaymon Gibson, who shot 50% from the field en route to 19 points along with six boards and five assists, and Collin Hill, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Gibson is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last seven games he's played. Another player making a difference was Ja'Reem Jones, who had eight points.

The victory made it two in a row for Dillon and bumps their season record up to 6-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.5 points over those games. As for Scotland, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-4 record this season.

Dillon and Laurence Manning Academy will round out the year against one another at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Scotland, they will take on Annandale at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Fighting Scots will need to watch out since the Atoms have now posted at least 55 points in their last three contests.
