Caliche is 2-8 against Akron since May of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Buffaloes will take on the Rams at 12:00 p.m. Caliche has given up an average of 10.8 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Caliche managed to slip by Wray the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Buffaloes came up short against the Eagles on Thursday, falling 13-3.
Zachary Yost was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases. Colton Cochran was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, Akron made easy work of Burlington on Monday and carried off a 13-3 win. The result was nothing new for the Rams, who have now won seven games by nine runs or more so far this season.
Akron got a massive performance out of Jax Kusel, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Jakzon Livesay, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base.
Akron was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .464. The last time their batting average was this high was back in May of 2025.
Akron pushed their record up to 12-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Caliche, their loss dropped their record down to 6-13.
Wednesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Caliche hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .345. However, it's not like Akron struggles in that department as they've averaged .317. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Caliche might still be hurting after the 11-1 defeat they got from Akron when the teams last played on April 10th. Can the Buffaloes avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
