Basketball Recap: Elgin/Pope John Drops Highest Score of Season Against Chambers/Wheeler Central

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Elgin/Pope John). They claimed a resounding 65-34 victory over the Chambers/Wheeler Central Renegades. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 41-19.

Elgin/Pope John got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Braelyn Martinsen out in front who posted 18 points. Another player making a difference was Kate Furstenau, who scored 15 points.

Despite the defeat, Chambers/Wheeler Central had strong showings from Annabel Waldo, who had seven points and five boards, and Savannah Hansen, who put up seven points. That's the most points Hansen has posted since back in December of 2024.

Elgin/Pope John's victory bumped their record up to 15-4. As for Chambers/Wheeler Central, they have also been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-10 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Elgin/Pope John will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Chambers/Wheeler Central at 6:00 p.m. on February 11th. As for Chambers/Wheeler Central, they will take on Stuart in a tournament on Tuesday.
