Softball Recap: Powers Catholic Comes Up Short

Powers Catholic had lost eight straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 2-17 to make it nine. They took a 9-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Notre Dame Prep Fighting Irish. The Chargers were not able to make up for their defeat to the Fighting Irish from their previous meeting back in April of 2021.

Alexa Glady put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 13 batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and five unearned) runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Ella Swigert was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Haleena Abueita also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

As for Notre Dame Prep, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games.

On Notre Dame Prep's side, Brianna DeCaussin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits.

At the plate, Katherine Healy was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Emersyn Rix-Renne was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

While Powers Catholic had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
