Westchester Country Day is 0-4 against Wesleyan Christian Academy since April of 2017 but things could change on Thursday. The Wildcats will head out on the road to take on the Trojans at 6:00 p.m. Westchester Country Day is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
Westchester Country Day will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Thursday, then bounced right back against Gaston Day on Wednesday. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Spartans with a sharp 14-3 win. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Spartans recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.
Crawford Elrod was incredible, going 3-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and one triple. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024. Ryan Engle was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Westchester Country Day kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.1 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 11.
Meanwhile, Wesleyan Christian Academy didn't have quite enough to beat T.C. Roberson on Saturday and fell 5-3. The Trojans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Wesleyan Christian Academy also got a good showing from Sam Cozart, who struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). Cozart also tossed a walk, which is notable because the Trojans are 4-2 when he allows at most two walks, but 5-9 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Wesleyan Christian Academy saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cole Bowman, who went 3-for-4 with one RBI. Bowman is becoming a predictor of the Trojans' success: when he posts at least three hits the team is 2-1 (and 7-10 when he doesn't).
Wesleyan Christian Academy's loss dropped their record down to 9-11. As for Westchester Country Day, their record is now 4-10.
Westchester Country Day suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Wesleyan Christian Academy in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
