The Van Wert Cougars and the St. Henry Redskins will face off at 5:30 p.m. on February 10th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Van Wert has now lost eight straight, leaving the team is hunting for their first win since January 6.
Van Wert fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Kenton on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 65-61 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wildcats. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Meanwhile, St. Henry unfortunately witnessed the end of their 13-game winning streak on Friday. They had to suffer through a rough 74-41 loss at the hands of St. John's. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points St. Henry has scored all season.
Despite the loss, St. Henry got a solid performance out of Evan Bowers, who scored 19 points along with eight rebounds and two blocks. Bowers hasn't dropped below 15 points for ten straight games. Another player making a difference was Caden Bergman, who scored six points along with five rebounds.
Van Wert has been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 11 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-16 record this season. As for St. Henry, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-4.
Everything went Van Wert's way against St. Henry in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 as Van Wert made off with a 72-52 win. Will Van Wert repeat their success, or does St. Henry have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
