The Wickliffe Blue Devils will head out to challenge the Madison Blue Streaks at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Wickliffe is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.
Wickliffe couldn't beat Rootstown on Wednesday even though they stacked five runs on them in the third inning. The Blue Devils lost 19-5 to the Rovers.
Ava McGarry made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Sofia Bucar also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, Madison posted their closest win since March 25th on Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Lakeside, sneaking past 6-5. The Blue Streaks haven't had any issues with the Dragons recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Paige Higgins and Camille Horvath made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Higgins tossed four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Horvath tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. At the plate, Higgins went 1-for-4 with one home run and two runs, while Horvath went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Halle Fields, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Hannah Welch was another, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Madison's record is now 7-4. As for Wickliffe, their loss dropped their record down to 4-7.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Wickliffe hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .347. However, it's not like Madison struggles in that department as they've averaged .312. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Wickliffe came up short against Madison when the teams last played back in April of 2025, falling 5-1. Can the Blue Devils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
