Loyd Star is 9-1 against West Lincoln since April of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Hornets will welcome the Bears at 4:30 p.m. Loyd Star is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.
Things were looking good for Loyd Star after they put the first runs on the board on Thursday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Columbia by a score of 3-2. The Hornets have struggled against the Wildcats recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.
Carson Cunningham made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Casen Easterling, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and one RBI.
Meanwhile, West Lincoln can bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. They walked away with an 8-5 victory over Loyd Star.
Ben Segrest made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs but no hits. Segrest was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of West Lincoln's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 7-1 (and 6-7 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brody Dillon, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024.
West Lincoln's win bumped their record up to 13-8. As for Loyd Star, their loss dropped their record down to 12-10.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Loyd Star has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like West Lincoln struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Loyd Star couldn't quite get it done against West Lincoln in their previous matchup on Tuesday as they fell 8-5. Will the Hornets have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
