University Prep is 9-1 against Academy for Academic Excellence since March of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Jaguars will welcome the Knights at 3:30 p.m. University Prep is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.1 runs per game this season.
University Prep is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Riverside Prep just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Thursday. They lost 10-4 to the Silver Knights.
Paityn Zimmerman and Saidy Gonzalez did some serious damage despite the final result: Zimmerman went 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs, while Gonzalez went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Sophia Perea was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last contest, Academy for Academic Excellence made sure to put some runs up on the board against Excelsior Charter on Thursday. The Knights narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Eagles 12-11. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Knights have posted since March 1st.
Kayla Berg was incredible, going a perfect 5-for-5 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one triple. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayden Gonzales, who went 2-for-5 with one home run and two RBI.
Academy for Academic Excellence kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.
University Prep's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 13-4. As for Academy for Academic Excellence, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 8-9-1.
Tuesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. University Prep has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .444. However, it's not like Academy for Academic Excellence struggles in that department as they've averaged .485. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
