Softball Recap: Scott Wins Going Away Against Westside

Scott had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 13-run drubbing they dealt WestSide on Tuesday. The Skyhawks were the clear victors by a 14-1 margin over the Renegades. The Skyhawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by six runs or more this season.

Kambri Beard made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Beard was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played.

In other batting news, Scott got a massive performance out of Haven Tomblin, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2. That's the most runs Tomblin has posted since back in May of 2024. Hailey Capps was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Scott was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as WestSide only posted a batting average of .062.

Scott's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-2. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for WestSide, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Scott will square off against Logan at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Skyhawks 2.8, the Wildcats 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for WestSide, they will challenge Liberty at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Renegades' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Raiders have averaged an impressive 7 runs per game this season.
