Nogales is a perfect 10-0 against Desert View since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Apaches will square off against the Jaguars at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
While Nogales' win against Sahuarita wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Apaches sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over the Mustangs on Friday. The Apaches haven't had any issues with the Mustangs recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.
Meanwhile, Desert View waltzed into their contest on Thursday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They put the hurt on the Caballeros with a sharp 10-2 victory. Considering the Jaguars have won ten matchups by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Cristobal Lorta and Orlando Pinedo made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Lorta pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Pinedo tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. At the plate, Lorta went 1-for-5 with one home run and three RBI, while Pinedo scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Yadier Acu?a, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jorge Zazueta, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-5.
Desert View always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .525. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .525 or higher in five consecutive games.
Desert View pushed their record up to 13-4 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Nogales, their record now sits at 11-6-1.
Nogales came out on top in a nail-biter against Desert View when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 10-8. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Apaches since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
