It was a good run, but the Mater Lakes Academy Bears unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Monday. They took a 63-49 bruising from Riviera Prep. Mater Lakes Academy was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Riviera Prep apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Riviera Prep got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Gustavo Guimaraes Alves out in front who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. Guimaraes Alves is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Dante Allen, who scored 19 points along with two steals.
Mater Lakes Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 14-7. As for Riviera Prep, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season.
Mater Lakes Academy on the road again on Saturday and play against Orlando Christian Prep at 4:30 p.m. on January 27th. As for Riviera Prep, they will square off against Prolific Prep of Napa Christian at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Prolific Prep of Napa Christian's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.
