Newberry and the Indians are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2018, but not for long. The Newberry Panthers will head out on the road to square off against the Fort White Indians at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Newberry will be strutting in after a win while the Indians will be coming in after a loss.
Last Thursday, Newberry earned a 51-40 win over the Rams. The victory was just what Newberry needed coming off of a 69-41 defeat in their prior contest.
Meanwhile, Fort White's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their seventh straight loss. They were dealt a 56-20 defeat at the hands of Columbia. While losing is never fun, Fort White can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 464th, while the Tigers are ranked 152nd).
Newberry pushed their record up to 14-7 with that win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.0 points per game. As for Fort White, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost ten of their last 11 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-14 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Newberry against the Indians in their previous meeting back in January as the squad secured a 67-25 victory. Will Newberry repeat their success, or do the Indians have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
