Freedom is a perfect 10-0 against Waupaca since May of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Irish will be playing in front of their home fans against the Comets at 4:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Thursday, Freedom made easy work of Oconto Falls and carried off a 13-3 victory. The win continues a trend for the Irish in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won six in a row.
Freedom got a great performance from Kailey Stordeur as she tossed five innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits.
At the plate, Jovie Smith was a standout: she scored three runs while going 1-for-3. Another player making a difference was Marlee Smith, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3.
Freedom always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .536. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Oconto Falls only posted an OBP of .381.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Waupaca ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Little Chute 14-12. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Comets' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
C Guyette was excellent, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. S Floistad was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Freedom's win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.9 runs over those games. As for Waupaca, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.
Waupaca's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Freedom has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Waupaca, though, as they've been averaging only 2 strikeouts. Will Freedom keep running through batters, or will the Comets buck the trend?
Freedom came out on top in a nail-biter against Waupaca in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, sneaking past 1-0. Will the Irish repeat their success, or do the Comets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
