Nicole Carrasco spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single walk in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Carmen Castro was incredible, firing off two home runs, three RBI, and one double while going 4-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024. Naima Ralston was another key player, going 4-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Sports Leadership & Management was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .393 or higher in five consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Boulder City faced Pahrump Valley in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Eagles narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Trojans 9-8.
Boulder City also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Payton Rogers gave up only one earned (and seven unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, Boulder City let Baylee Cook and Kylie Czubernat run wild. Cook went 1-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while Czubernat went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Rhiley Beck, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Sports Leadership & Management's victory bumped their record up to 21-3. As for Boulder City, their win bumped their record up to 20-7.
Sports Leadership & Management's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's contest. The Bulls have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.1 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Boulder City, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Sports Leadership & Management continue to outrun the ball?
Sports Leadership & Management couldn't quite finish off Boulder City in their previous matchup back in April and fell 11-9. Can the Bulls avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
