Basketball Recap: Geibel Catholic Skates Past Environmental Charter with Ease

Geibel Catholic won the last time they faced Environmental Charter and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Geibel Catholic Gators breezed by the Environmental Charter Hawks to the tune of 75-42. The Gators have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven games by 21 points or more this season.

Geibel Catholic's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Gary Tarbuk led the charge by dropping a double-double on 20 points and ten assists. Those ten assists gave Tarbuk a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Evan Strimel, who went 9 of 16 en route to 20 points and five assists.

Geibel Catholic smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in ten consecutive matchups.

Several Hawks players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tobias Howard, who posted 11 points. Tyler Hurst was another key player, putting up eight points.

Geibel Catholic's record now sits at 12-9. As for Environmental Charter, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost 11 of their last 12 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-15 record this season.

Geibel Catholic will face off against Monessen at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Monessen knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past nine games -- so hopefully Geibel Catholic likes a good challenge. As for Environmental Charter, it'll be a Battle of the Birds when the Environmental Charter Hawks take on the Serra Catholic Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Serra Catholic is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 66.8 points per game this season.
