The Needville Bluejays are taking a road trip to challenge the Almeta Crawford Chargers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Needville not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since November 15, 2024 (when they won 49-7). Everything went their way against Brazosport as they made off with a 30-9 win. With the Bluejays ahead 28-3 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Needville got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Cameron Hall out in front who threw for 182 yards and one touchdown, and also punched in one score on the ground. Colton Butler was in the mix too, providing the Bluejays with one TD.
Meanwhile, Almeta Crawford came tearing into Friday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 31.3 points), and they left with even more momentum. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Eagles 49-21. The Chargers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by 28 points or more this season.
Needville better keep an eye on Braylen Fisher. He was instrumental in Almeta Crawford's win, throwing for 149 yards and three touchdowns while completing 73.3% of his passes, and also rushing for 73 yards and one score on only five carries. Amir Johnson was Fisher's top target, picking up 70 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.
Almeta Crawford was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 223 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in August of 2024.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Almeta Crawford's defense and their four sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as four different players picked up one apiece.
Almeta Crawford's record now sits at 6-1. As for Needville, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Needville has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 159 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Almeta Crawford struggles in that department as they've been averaging 161 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Needville was able to grind out a solid win over Almeta Crawford when the teams last played back in October of 2024, winning 55-42. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bluejays since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
