The St. David Tigers will look to defend their home court on Monday against the Pima Roughriders at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
St. David waltzed into their game on Wednesday with six straight wins but they left with seven. They took their matchup on the road with ease, bagging a 47-16 victory over Desert Christian. Given St. David's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 32nd, while Desert Christian is ranked 168th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
St. David had a senior duo take command as Mayla Trejo scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and eight steals and Anissa Jacquez dropped a double-double on 11 points and 17 rebounds. Jacquez is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last 19 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Emelynn Jacquez, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Pima posted their biggest win since December 27, 2023 on Friday. They blew past Tombstone, posting a 62-19 victory at home. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Pima has posted against Tombstone since December 20, 2019.
St. David's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 20-1. As for Pima, they have been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season.
St. David might still be hurting after the 49-23 loss they got from Pima in their previous matchup back in December of 2022. Thankfully for St. David, Ashlynn Chlarson (who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
