Goose Creek (S.C.) had its advantage, which at one point stood at 24 points, drop to eight before the final whistle blew on a 31-23 victory over
Stratford (Goose Creek, S.C.).
The Gators were up 17-0 at the half after taking the lead on a field goal by
Masamitsu Ishibaski in the first quarter.
Goose Creek expanded its lead to 24 points entering the fourth quarter. GC scored once in the quarter on a
Dantez Bennamon touchdown pass to
Tramel Terry.
With the win the Gators extended their winning streak to 11 games. Goose Creek defeated the Wildcats 52-7 last week.
Bennamon was the top performer for GC. The junior quarterback threw one touchdown, ran for two touchdowns, caught one touchdown and kicked one extra point. He has now scored eight touchdowns on the season.
The Knights came in giving up 15.0 points per game this season. Stratford struggled against the Gators' offense, which entered the game scoring 48.8 points per game.
Last season's game between the teams resulted in a 49-0 win for Goose Creek.
The loss comes after Stratford defeated South Florence 33-14 last week. The loss snapped SHS's 2-game winning streak.
