Spring Valley won the last time they faced Glenwood City and Kemri Schlegel did her part to make sure it happened again. The Cardinals put the hurt on the Hilltoppers with a sharp 3-0 victory on Thursday thanks in part to Schlegel, who had 18 digs. She has been hot, having posted 11 or more digs the last five times she's played.
While Spring Valley won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the third set they played. The final score came out to 25-12, 25-19, 25-22.
Meanwhile, Phillips had just enough and edged out Glenwood City 3-2 on Tuesday.
Phillips wouldn't go down easily and took Glenwood City into a fifth set where they got it done with a two-point win. The match finished with set scores of 24-26, 25-14, 25-20, 20-25, 20-18.
Spring Valley better focus on containing Chloe Esterholm and Annaka Tobias as the pair were huge in Phillips' win. Esterholm had seven digs and two aces, while Tobias had 23 kills, 19 digs, and three aces. That's the most aces Tobias has posted over her last six matches.
Phillips was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 12 aces. They are 4-2 when they serve at least ten aces.
Phillips' win bumped their record up to 16-17. As for Spring Valley, their victory bumped their record up to 19-10.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday's contest: Spring Valley has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 7.3 aces per game. However, it's not like Phillips struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.3 aces.
