The Hawley Bearcats will face off against the Roby Lions at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Hawley picked up another tournament win on Thursday. Everything went their way against Hamlin as they made off with a 16-2 victory. The Bearcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by eight runs or more this season.
Jaylee Lowe made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.
In other batting news, Hawley got a massive performance out of Averie Whitehead, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That's the most runs Whitehead has posted since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was Aadi Fuentes, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Hawley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .739. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hamlin only posted an OBP of .438.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Roby, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They put the hurt on Knox City with a sharp 15-3 win on Tuesday.
Like Hawley, Roby also got a great game from a two-way player: Samarra Frausteo. She pitched five innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits. Frausteo was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Abigail Carlile, who fired off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 2-for-2. Staleigh Young was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.
Hawley's record is now 11-5. As for Roby, their record now sits at 3-6.
Roby's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Hawley hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .396. It's a different story for Roby, though, as they've only averaged .252. Will they be able to contain Hawley's hitters?
Hawley might still be hurting after the 18-2 defeat they got from Roby in their previous meeting last Tuesday. Can the Bearcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
