Baseball Recap: Nansemond-Suffolk Academy Has No Trouble Against Hampton Roads Academy

Nansemond-Suffolk Academy barely beat Hampton Roads Academy the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Saints were the clear victors by a 13-7 margin over the Navigators on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Saints, who have now won ten matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Gavin Angelillo was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in five of his six plate appearances with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Cam Bergen was a standout: he went 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Chase Eliason, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Nansemond-Suffolk Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The victory made it two in a row for Nansemond-Suffolk Academy and bumps their season record up to 11-9. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 7 runs in those games. As for Hampton Roads Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-9.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Nansemond-Suffolk Academy will square off against Steward at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Hampton Roads Academy, they will face off against Norfolk Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Navigators are facing the Ambassadors at the right time seeing as the Ambassadors are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
