After a string of four wins, the West Craven Eagles's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell 65-58 to Pamlico County. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as West Craven came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 107th, while Pamlico County is ranked 243rd).
Several Eagles players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Shondre Pugh, who scored 13 points. Those 13 points set a new season-high mark for him. Amari Boomer was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Even though they lost, West Craven were working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Pamlico County's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jayden Williams , who scored 19 points along with nine rebounds. That's the first time this season that Williams pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Tariq Barber, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds.
West Craven's loss dropped their record down to 4-1. As for Pamlico County, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West Craven will take on Ayden - Grifton at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Ayden - Grifton has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 417 points over their last six games. Pamlico County won't have much time to rest: their next match is against West Carteret at 8:00 p.m. on December 13th.
