Basketball Recap: Air Academy Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Levi Wyman and Brody Winnett

Air Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They took a 59-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cheyenne Mountain Red-Tailed Hawks. The Kadets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Red-Tailed Hawks apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Brody Winnett and Levi Wyman certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Winnett went 6 for 12 on his way to 14 points and eight boards, while Wyman posted 11 points and seven rebounds. The dominant performance gave Winnett a new career-high in rebounds.

Even though they lost, Air Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Cheyenne Mountain to victory, but perhaps none more so than Cayden Cooper, who had 16 points along with seven boards and seven steals. Cooper is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last nine games he's played. Alex Treglia was another key player, putting up ten points in addition to five rebounds and five steals.

Air Academy's record now sits at 2-10. As for Cheyenne Mountain, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Air Academy will square off against Palmer Ridge at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Air Academy is facing Palmer Ridge at the right time seeing as Palmer Ridge is stuck on a three-game losing streak. Cheyenne Mountain has already played their next contest (against Discovery Canyon), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
