The Cathedral Prep Ramblers had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23.8 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. They secured a 64-60 W over McDowell. The victory was all the more spectacular given Cathedral Prep's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 126th, while McDowell is ranked 43rd).
Cathedral Prep was led to victory by Amaree Pickens and Nando Mirarchi. Pickens scored 16 points along with four steals and two blocks, while Mirarchi scored 23 points along with two steals. That's the first time this season that Pickens posted two or more blocks. Michael Thompson was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
The victory got Cathedral Prep back to even at 8-8. As for McDowell, their defeat ended a 13-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cathedral Prep's road trip will continue as they head out to face Erie at 7:30 p.m. on January 26th. Erie is on a three-game streak of home wins, Cathedral Prep a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. As for McDowell, they will head out on the road to challenge General McLane at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. General McLane has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
