Despite the loss, San Antonio Christian saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Ethan Young rushed for 131 yards and three scores while picking up 7.7 yards per carry. Those 131 rushing yards set a new season-high mark for Young. Sloan Guillory was another key player, throwing for 200 yards and a pair of TDs.
While San Antonio Christian came up short, they sure didn't make it easy for St. Joseph: they limited their QB to completion percentage of just 44.4%. The team can thank Aaron Edmonds for the heroic effort on defense: he. San Antonio Christian wasn't nearly as limited: they posted one of 51.9%.
Meanwhile, Lutheran South Academy was fully in charge on Friday, breezing past KIPP Sunnyside 42-8. The result was nothing new for the Pioneers, who have now won four contests by 21 points or more so far this season.
Lutheran South Academy's win came from a few key players San Antonio Christian will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Holt Teichman, who threw for 126 yards and two touchdowns while completing 73.3% of his passes, and also rushed for 43 yards. Another player making a difference was Cade Griffin, who rushed for 71 yards and a pair of scores.
One reason for the win was Lutheran South Academy's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. Hank Hughes was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two himself.
Lutheran South Academy is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 36.8 points over those games. As for San Antonio Christian, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 6-4.
San Antonio Christian came out on top in a nail-biter against Lutheran South Academy in their previous meeting back in November of 2023, sneaking past 45-42. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lions since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
