The Owyhee Braves had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 33.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They enjoyed a cozy 60-44 victory over McDermitt. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Owyhee also won the last time the pair played last Thursday.
Owyhee's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Hunter Smartt, who scored 12 points. Bisaapi Melendez was another key contributor, scoring 15 points.
Despite the loss, McDermitt saw an underclassman step up: Shandon Camas dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. Camas continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Eli Northrup, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds and six assists.
Even though they lost, McDermitt smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. This was only their 12th loss (out of 14 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
Owyhee is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. As for McDermitt, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-18.
Owyhee and Wells will face off at 7:00 p.m. on February 9th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Owyhee has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 189 points over their last three contests. As for McDermitt, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Eureka at 7:00 p.m. on February 9th. Eureka will roll in looking for their 21st straight victory, something McDermitt surely won't give up without a fight.
