The Tahquitz Titans are taking a road trip to face off against the Paloma Valley Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.
Tahquitz was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Cathedral City on Wednesday. Tahquitz's pitchers stepped up to hand Cathedral City a 10-0 shutout. The victory continues a trend for the Titans in their matchups with the Lions: they've now won four in a row.
Vanessa Garcia was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Reyna Garcia, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Paloma Valley duked it out with San Jacinto on Wednesday. Paloma Valley blew past San Jacinto 12-4. The win was familiar territory for the Wildcats, who have now won three contests in a row.
Kaydence Koepsell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Hailey Alarcon, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Abigail Rogers was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.
Paloma Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as San Jacinto only managed nine hits.
Paloma Valley pushed their record up to 7-2 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Tahquitz, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Tahquitz has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Paloma Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Tahquitz might still be hurting after the 19-2 defeat they got from Paloma Valley in their previous meeting back in March of 2015. Can Tahquitz avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
