The Wayne Valley Indians lost against the Mount Olive Marauders last Friday, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Wayne Valley fell to Mount Olive 27-21. While losing is never fun, Wayne Valley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey football rankings (they are ranked 111th, while Mount Olive is ranked 31st).
When it comes to explaining why Wayne Valley lost, one person who can't be blamed is Matt Chetirkin. Despite the final result, he rushed for 30 yards and a touchdown, and also caught a touchdown.
Adam DeCristofaro was the offensive standout of the matchup as he rushed for 81 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries. Tyler Cumming and his 94 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Mount Olive's victory.
This is the second loss in a row for Wayne Valley and nudges their season record down to 4-6. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 10.5 points per game. As for Mount Olive, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 10-1.
Wayne Valley does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Mount Olive will be playing at home against Sayreville at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Sayreville is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.
