Governor Livingston is on a five-game streak of home wins, while Summit is on an eight-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Highlanders will host the Hilltoppers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Friday, Governor Livingston got the win against Elizabeth by a conclusive 18-5. The victory continues a trend for the Highlanders in their matchups with the Minutemen: they've now won nine in a row.
The team relied heavily on Chelsea Kiesewetter, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Ally Gardner, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Governor Livingston was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .577. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Summit never let their opponents score on Friday. Everything went their way against Kent Place as they made off with an 11-0 win.
Charlotte Yarnall made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Chloe Jacobson was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, one run, and one double. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Hannah Jacobson was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Governor Livingston's victory bumped their record up to 10-3. As for Summit, their win bumped their record up to 11-2.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Governor Livingston has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.2 hits per game. However, it's not like Summit struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 3.6 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Governor Livingston took their victory against Summit in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 15-5 score. Will the Highlanders repeat their success, or do the Hilltoppers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
