The Sage Creek Bobcats's game on Saturday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Wednesday. They walked away with a 72-60 victory over St. Joseph Academy. Given Sage Creek's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 221st, while St. Joseph Academy is ranked 447th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Sage Creek's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Zac Peterson led the charge by scoring 22 points along with five rebounds. The match was Peterson's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Elijah Stephens, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 16 rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why St. Joseph Academy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Angel Ochoa. Despite the final result, he scored 36 points. Ochoa scored a full 60% of St. Joseph Academy's points, the eighth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Thaddeus Yuhas was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
Sage Creek pushed their record up to 9-3 with that victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 76.5 points per game. As for St. Joseph Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-4 record this season.
Sage Creek and Kamiak will round out the year against one another at 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday at. St. Joseph Academy will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Mt. Carmel at 7:00 p.m. on December 21st. Hopefully Mt. Carmel focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 last Friday.
