The Willis Wildkats put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They took down Oak Ridge 49-35. Given Willis' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 35th, while Oak Ridge is ranked 177th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Derek Lagway continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, throwing for 303 yards and three touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes, and also rushing for 88 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries. Lagway hasn't dropped below three passing touchdowns for eight straight games. Another player making a difference was Jermaine Bishop jr, who picked up 83 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Willis' victory was their fifth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 10-0. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-10 Cleveland and 1-9 Temple (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 34% over those games). As for Oak Ridge, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-3.
Willis will take on Nimitz at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Oak Ridge, they will head out on the road to face off against Dekaney at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Dekaney will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
