Two dominant players in Olivia Owens and Tom Barbosa are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Phoenix Country Day Eagles will be playing in front of their home fans against the Madison Highland Prep Heat at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Phoenix Country Day will be looking to keep their 26-game home win streak (dating back to last season) alive.
In what's become a running theme this season, Phoenix Country Day gave their fans yet another huge win on Monday. They really took it to Rancho Solano Prep for the full four quarters, racking up a 61-16 win on the road. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 40-9.
Aila Kaibara and Owens were among the main playmakers for Phoenix Country Day as the former scored 13 points along with eight assists and four steals and the latter scored 19 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Owens is crushing the point category: she's posted at least 15 every time she's taken the court this season. Madison Gordon was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 59-29, which was the final score in Madison Highland Prep's tilt against the Falcons on Monday. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Madison Highland Prep in their matchups with the Falcons: they've now lost three in a row.
Phoenix Country Day's victory bumped their record up to 19-3. As for Madison Highland Prep, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost eight of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Phoenix Country Day against the Heat in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 as the squad secured a 70-15 win. Will Phoenix Country Day repeat their success, or do the Heat have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
