After a string of four wins, the Nipmuc Regional Warriors's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell just short of Blackstone-Millville by a score of 61-59. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Nipmuc Regional came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Massachusetts basketball rankings (they are ranked 59th, while Blackstone-Millville is ranked 228th).
When it comes to explaining why Nipmuc Regional lost, one person who can't be blamed is Chase Kelly. Despite the final result, he scored 26 points. Those 26 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Logan DeMarzo , who scored eight points.
Blackstone-Millville found their leader in underclassman Jackson Dunton, who scored 13 points along with nine rebounds and eight assists. That's the first time this season that Dunton posted eight or more assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Karson Cournoyer , who scored eight points along with eight rebounds and seven steals.
Nipmuc Regional's defeat dropped their record down to 6-2. As for Blackstone-Millville, their win bumped their record up to 3-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Nipmuc Regional will face off against Whitinsville Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. That game will pit two of the most dominant players against one another: Caleb Deters and James McKinney. As for Blackstone-Millville, they will head out on the road to face off against Hopedale at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
