Basketball Recap: Washington Union's Luck Changes for the Better on Friday

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Washington Union). They came out on top against the Chowchilla Tribe by a score of 54-45 on Friday. The win was all the more spectacular given the Panthers' disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1031st, while the Tribe are ranked 478th).

Despite the loss, Chowchilla still got an impressive performance from Khaled Escheik, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 16 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Zayne Smith, who posted 11 points.

Washington Union moved to 1-7 with that victory, which also ended their nine-game losing streak. As for Chowchilla, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-4.

Washington Union will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Parlier at 1:30 p.m. on January 3, 2025. As for Chowchilla, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 50-38 victory against Golden Valley on the 14th.
