Basketball Recap: Evan Mcchesney's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Los Fresnos over United South

After flying high against Port Isabel last Friday, Los Fresnos came back down to earth. The Los Fresnos Falcons took a hard 67-49 fall against the United South Panthers on Monday. If the Falcons were looking for revenge after losing 73-63 to them when the teams met, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Several Falcons players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Evan Mcchesney, who went 5 of 12 on his way to 13 points in addition to six boards and five assists. That's the most assists Mcchesney has posted since back in November of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Eric Salazar, who posted 12 points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Los Fresnos smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in five consecutive contests.

Los Fresnos moved to 18-7 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for United South, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Los Fresnos will square off against Economedes at 1:30 p.m. on Friday. Los Fresnos is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 70.4 points per game this season. As for United South, they will face off against Medina Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in United South's favor as the team sits on ten straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Medina Valley has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
