Football Recap: Southwest Skates Past Martin with Ease

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Southwest). They blew past the Martin Tigers 56-13 on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Dragons in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won eight in a row.

Southwest's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Austin Diggs, who rushed for 126 yards and two TDs while picking up 7.4 yards per carry. Those 126 rushing yards gave Diggs a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Aadreaz Voss, who rushed for 83 yards and a pair of scores on only eight carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Southwest was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 380 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 151 rushing yards in five consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Southwest didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Jae'Von Means and Felix Hernandez. Means got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Southwest's win bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Martin, their loss dropped their record down to 1-2.

Coincidentally, Southwest and Martin will both be playing Southside the next time they take the field. The Tigers will host the Cardinals at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, while the Dragons will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on October 3.
