Baseball Recap: Holmes Beats Bear Grass Charter for Their Third Straight Victory

Holmes posted their closest win since April 5, 2024 on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Bear Grass Charter Bears 5-3. The five-run effort marked the Aces' lowest-scoring match of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Maddox Bass made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Bass was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 1-for-2. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

In other batting news, Myles Cobb and Daniel Hare did most of the damage at the plate: Cobb scored a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances, while Hare scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

The win (which was Holmes' third in a row) raised their record to 4-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Bear Grass Charter, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Holmes will face off against Manteo at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Manteo is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season. As for Bear Grass Charter, they will take on Gates County at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
