Immaculata-La Salle and Archbishop Carroll are an even 3-3 against one another since February of 2016, but likely not for long. The Immaculata-La Salle Royal Lions will be playing at home against the Archbishop Carroll Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Immaculata-La Salle is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.2 runs per game this season.
Immaculata-La Salle fell victim to True North Classical Academy and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Titans. The Royal Lions' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Alexander Corzo was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out eight batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Immaculata-La Salle saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jeremy Fornos, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Archbishop Carroll entered their tilt with Brito on Tuesday with three consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with four. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over the Panthers.
Archbishop Carroll also got a great performance from STEVEN NUNEZ as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. NUNEZ has become a key player for Archbishop Carroll: the team is 3-0-1 when he allows at most three hits, but 4-5 otherwise.
At the plate, ANGELLO CHAVIANO was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with three RBI. Archbishop Carroll is undefeated when CHAVIANO posts three or more RBI, but 4-5-1 otherwise. Another player making a difference was DYLAN CASAL, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Immaculata-La Salle's loss dropped their record down to 7-3. As for Archbishop Carroll, their win bumped their record up to 7-5-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Immaculata-La Salle has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Archbishop Carroll struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Immaculata-La Salle might still be hurting after the 9-2 defeat they got from Archbishop Carroll in their previous matchup back in February of 2024.
