Baseball Game Preview: Timnath Cubs vs. Thompson Valley Eagles

The Timnath Cubs will head out on the road to challenge the Thompson Valley Eagles at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Timnath is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.

Timnath lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Berthoud, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Monday's game. The Cubs blew past the Spartans 6-0 on Monday.

August Welz looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Drake Jenkins and Colton Mitchell did most of the damage at the plate: Jenkins went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base, while Mitchell went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Timnath is undefeated when Jenkins posts two or more runs, but 3-7 otherwise. Brek Ader also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 11 runs the game before, Thompson Valley was a bit more limited in their match on Thursday. They came up short against Poudre, falling 11-1. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Thompson Valley saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Garet Hendrickson, who went 1-for-3 with one triple.

Thompson Valley now has a losing record of 6-7. As for Timnath, the victory got them back to even at 7-7.

Saturday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Timnath hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .318. However, it's not like Thompson Valley struggles in that department as they've averaged .338. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
