Basketball Game Preview: Peninsula Seahawks vs. Kentlake Falcons

The Peninsula Seahawks and the Kentlake Falcons will face off at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Peninsula saw some tournament action on Friday. The game between them and Bishop Blanchet didn't end well, with Peninsula falling 48-32. While losing is never fun, the Seahawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 136th, while the Bears are ranked 32nd).

Peninsula might have lost, but man, Grace Richardson was a machine: she dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. Richardson is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down nine or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Maci Miller, who posted six points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Peninsula smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in five consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Kentlake was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They came up short against Newport - Bellevue, falling 50-25.

Kentlake's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Peninsula, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-4.

Peninsula came out on top in a nail-biter against Kentlake in their previous matchup back in December of 2018, sneaking past 62-60. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Kentlake's Zahirah Walton, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 boards. Now that she's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Peninsula still be able to contain Walton? There's only one way to find out.
