Mt. Rainier has been on the road for two straight, but on Saturday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Graham-Kapowsin Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Mt. Rainier has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 256 points over their last four matchups.
Mt. Rainier pushed their score all the way to 59 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 84-59 walloping at the hands of Tahoma. While losing is never fun, Mt. Rainier can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 122nd, while Tahoma is ranked 11th).
Mt. Rainier might have lost, but man, Zach Luz was a machine: he scored 24 points along with two steals. That was a full 40.7% of Mt. Rainier's points, marking the eighth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Wesley Armstrong, who scored four points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Graham-Kapowsin came into Saturday's contest having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 42-40 win over Bellarmine Prep on Saturday.
Mt. Rainier's loss dropped their record down to 11-9. As for Graham-Kapowsin, their victory bumped their record up to 10-13.
Mt. Rainier couldn't quite finish off Graham-Kapowsin when the teams last played back in December of 2014 and fell 57-54. Can Mt. Rainier avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
